Head of Inclusion (AEN & ATG) - Whole School
Reporting to: Junior School Headteacher & Senior School Headteacher
Job Description
- To foster the inclusion of all students, particularly those with Additional Educational Needs (AEN) & Academically Talented & Gifted (ATG) needs.
The main duties and responsibilities are as follows: -
Strategic Planning and Leadership:
- Develop and implement a strategic vision for inclusive education at TJSS that aligns with the institution's mission and values.
- Lead the creation, review, and implementation of inclusive policies, procedures, and practices.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to set strategic goals and priorities for inclusion.
- Provide guidance and support to teachers, staff, and administrators in implementing inclusive practices.
- Be an exemplar classroom teacher able to offer support and guidance to staff on Inclusion and ATG to promote high standards of educational achievement.
- Line manage staff employed to support children with needs (AEN & ATG).
- Contribute to the strategic development of Inclusion in the Early Years, Junior & Senior School, including academic, pupil wellbeing and personal development.
- Work with the Headteachers and the AEN teams to lead, motivate, support, challenge and develop staff to secure continual improvement, including his/her own continual professional development.
- Work closely with the school counsellors as needed.
- To be an effective part of the Performance Management of AEN staff.
Program Development and Implementation:
- Develop and oversee the implementation of comprehensive support systems for students with diverse learning needs.
- Design and implement programs and initiatives to promote inclusive education throughout the institution.
- Model outstanding AEN interventions and in-class support.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to create inclusive curriculum materials, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of inclusive programs and adjust as necessary.
Collaboration and Partnership:
- Foster collaboration and partnership among teachers, parents, administrators, and external stakeholders to support inclusive education.
- Establish and maintain relationships with community organisations and resources that can support inclusive practices.
- Collaborate with special education staff, counsellors, and related service providers to ensure comprehensive support for students.
- Facilitate regular communication and collaboration with parents/guardians, addressing their concerns and providing updates on inclusive practices.
Professional Development and Training:
- Identify professional development needs related to inclusive education and coordinate training programs for teachers and staff.
- Provide guidance and support to teachers in developing their understanding of inclusive practices and adapting instruction to meet diverse student needs.
- Organise and facilitate workshops, seminars, and training sessions on inclusive education topics.
- Stay abreast of research, legislation, and best practices in the field of inclusive education and share relevant information with staff.
Policy Development and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements, local policies, and regulations related to inclusive education.
- Develop and review policies and procedures to promote inclusive practices and address the diverse needs of students.
- Collaborate with senior leadership and governing bodies to report on the institution's inclusive education initiatives and outcomes.
- Advocate for inclusive policies and practices at the institutional, community, and national levels.
- Ensure access arrangements with external examination boards are implemented as and when needed, to support all learners.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Collect and analyse data on student performance, attendance, and behaviour to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Use data to inform decision-making, evaluate the effectiveness of inclusive practices, and drive continuous improvement.
- Prepare reports on the progress, achievements, and challenges of students with diverse learning needs.
- Prepare and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to support all students with AEN, AGT and neurodivergent needs.
- Collaborate with senior leadership and relevant stakeholders to report on inclusive education initiatives and outcomes.
This job description is not exhaustive, and the post-holder will be expected to undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by the Head of School or his delegated authorities.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in education, Special Education, Inclusive Education, or a related field. (Master's degree or higher is preferred).
- Extensive experience in special education, inclusive education, or related roles, preferably in a leadership capacity.
- In-depth knowledge of inclusive education principles, practices, and policies.
- Familiarity with relevant legislation, regulations, and frameworks related to inclusive education.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate data and make evidence-based decisions.
- Strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
- Commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in education.
💼 Remuneration & Benefits
An initial two-year contract will be offered to the successful candidate.
We will offer a remuneration and benefits package that reflects the importance of the role and the successful candidate's experience. The package comprises:
- A regionally competitive annual salary paid gross, in Euros, with a tax-free element for those candidates currently residing outside of Cyprus, (remuneration will be determined in line with the School's Salary Scale and through internal benchmarking to ensure fair and equitable pay).
- A competitive relocation allowance will be offered for eligible overseas-hired candidates (including a monthly housing allowance and start-of-contract relocation expenses, including shipping, flights and work permits/visa costs for the Head of Inclusion and legal dependents).
- Local medical insurance for the Head of Inclusion and legal dependents.
- 50% tuition fee reduction for dependent children.
